Born in Salinas, CA
Resided in Salinas, CA
After graduating in 1942, she worked in the Salinas High School's registrar's office. In September of 1947, she married the love of her life, Thomas Young. Together they shared 64 wonderful years, joyfully raising two children, and creating a strong bond with their community and church.
May Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salinas for over 75 years, participating in the bell choir, Sunday school program, woman's gatherings, and Bible study. When her children were older, she returned to work for the Salinas Union High School District, retiring from the District's Administrative Offices in 1985. It was one of her greatest privileges to serve as a board member of INDNJC, a medical research foundation for graduate students at the University of California San Francisco.
As a lifelong lover of art, May Lee played the piano and sang. Through this love she encouraged and inspired her children to pursue the arts.
Although she and her husband were part of large families, they were extremely close to them enjoying many family gatherings. May Lee never failed to send birthday and holiday wishes to her numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Upon retiring, she and her husband loved traveling, learning about the history of the United States, and cultures of foreign countries. Typically soft spoken, May Lee made an exception cheering on her home teams, the SF Giants, 49ers, and Golden State Warriors.
May Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Thomas F. Young and son, Michael.
May Lee is survived by daughter, Linda (Kendall) Jang of Monterey, granddaughters, Alyssa and Sydney Jang both of Monterey, daughter-in-law, Janet Young of San Jose, granddaughter, Jennifer (Michael) Yoo of Bethesda, Maryland, brother, John Lew of San Jose, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. May Lee was highly regarded by family and friends.
Most important to her was her family and devotion to God. Enjoying a long and full life, May Lee was surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends, and was ever thankful to God and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for his abundant blessings.
Her family gratefully acknowledges the loving care of her devoted caregivers, Jennifer, Lilly, and Mary. The family would also like to recognize Dr. Yoneda for his many years of compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Salinas, 1130 San Vincente Ave., Salinas, CA 93901.
