Bill retired a Station Commander and Captain after 32 years of service with the Salinas Fire Dept. Afer retiring, he worked as a building inspector and a handyman. Everyone knew he could fix anything.
Bill moved to California at the young age of 4. After high school, he joined the US Navy and eventually would end up serving at the US Naval Auxillary Landing Field, Monterey. He was honorably discharged in 1967 and at that time he joined the fire fighting ranks in Salinas. He earned associate degrees in Fire Science and Agriculture.
Bill was known for his willingness to help, his patience, perseverence and kind heart. He was a devoted, loving father who was involved as a boy scout leader, Ferrasci Little League coach and 4-H leader. He loved sailing, fishing, horseback riding and sharing his hobbies with his family and friends.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and special friends who took such good care of him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jo Ann of Salinas, older sister Donna of Lancaster, sons Billy (Lorna) of Los Angeles, Bobby (Evalyn) of Elk Grove, Jeremy (Teresa) of Fort Smith, AR, daughter Miranda (Bobby) Webster of Salinas, 4 grandchildren, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 15, 2011 at 2:00 in the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas.
Memorials may be made to the SPCA, Monterey County 4-H, or the donor's favorite charity.
