He graduated from Salinas High School in 1949. In 1950 along with 2 of his best friends from grade school, Alex and Curly, together they joined the Navy. They were together on the USS Atlanta (CL51) for all 4 years of their deployment, making memories that he enjoyed for the rest of his life, that he loved to share with his family and friends. Returning to Salinas, in 1954, he began working for Kuhlman Electric, retiring after 33 years. For 32 years he enjoyed retirement, going each day to the Prunedale American Legion Post 593 for a beer (or two), playing a game of horseshoes and visiting with his buddies. He enjoyed golf, dancing in his younger days, working in his yard and listening to music. He loved spending time with his nephew-in-law/friend/neighbor, Ron Larsen, and shopping together at their favorite places, Harbor Freight and Home Depot. His friend, Mr. Peepers the cat was very loved and will continue to be loved by Liz and Ron. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Department of Veterans Affairs
He was preceded in death by his father, David Avila, mother, Amelia Armenta Avila, great grandmother, Rafaella, daughter, Vickie of Patterson, brothers, George Avila of Turlock, Arthur Avila of Brawley and sister, Lily Avila Alcantar of Prunedale.
He is survived by his niece and caretaker, Liz Larsen (Ron) and family of Prunedale, nieces, Becky Williamson and family of Red Bluff, Patricia Lopez and family all of Salinas, nephews, Israel Alcantar, Jr. of Montana, George Avila, Jr., Stephen Avila, Tim Avila all of Turlock and son, Eddie Avila.
Uncle Freddie you were so loved by all and you will be missed. God bless you. May you rest in peace with your family, who you have missed for many years.
