During his lifetime, Thomas made numerous friends and will be remembered as a giving, generous, hard-working, fearless and loving man.
Thomas' career included 16 years with Firestone Rubber and Tire Company where he was extremely active in the Union and was a key person in the establishment of an employee Credit Union. He was employed as a truck driver for the next 25 years working for Dr. Pepper, CoreMark and Seven Up Bottling Company.
Thomas earned his 5th Degree Black belt while serving as a member of the Kajukenbo Demo Team Inc. of Salinas. He also looked forward to his weekly gathering with longtime friends (Frank Cariaga, Bobby Campos, Tom Adair, Ernie Davila, Paul Valenzuela, Charlie Walker and Frank Lucio) who became known as the "Thursday Breakfast Club".
Thomas was formerly married to Burnette Pementil in 1963 and had 2 children, Natalie (Simon) Kingsley and Nick Simon.
Thomas was a devoted father, grand-father, and soon-to-be great-grandfather.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Segundo O. Simon.
Thomas is survived by his sister Pat (Frank) Cariaga of Salinas, daughter Natalie Kingsley of Paso Robles, grandson Shane Mullen Jr. of Santa Cruz, grandson Jacob Mullen of Paso Robles, grandson Justin Kingsley of Paso Robles, great-granddaughter Kai Michelle Mullen of Santa Cruz, son Nick Simon of Salinas, grandson Joshua Simon of Salinas, grandson Trevor Simon of Salinas, and longtime friend Arlo Bartholomew of Salinas.
Memorial Service to be held on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 11:00 am at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901
Internment will be in Salinas, California.
