In 2016, Samantha was honored to share her story as Ribbon Cutter for the Salinas Relay for Life. Samantha inspired the community by living a vibrant, active and positive life despite her health battles.
At that time, she was quoted as saying:
“I really want to be an inspiration to others. This is God giving me the opportunity to share my experience with other ladies. Whether they’ve gone through cancer or they’re putting off the mammogram, this is giving me that opportunity to be an inspiration. That’s when I feel the best, when I can inspire other people.”
Samantha was born in San Francisco, California and raised in Modesto, before coming to Monterey County in 1996.
Samantha leaves behind her husband, Elliott Frutkin; her children Madison Smith and Michael Smith; her step-children Hannah, Caroline and Miriam Frutkin, her mother, Dale Fachner and her brother Anthony F. Zalaco.
She was predeceased by her father, Anthony A. Zalaco.
In Samantha’s spirit, we’ve planned a Celebration of Life - a party - to gather everyone together.
Celebration of Life, 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 20 Carmel Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901.
There will be music, food, memory box, lots of pictures and a special send off.
If you would like to make a donation in Samantha’s name, please contribute to: Breast Cancer Assistance Group of Monterey County (BCAG). BCAG helped Samantha when she needed it most and we want to continue to keep this organization strong to keep up the amazing direct support they provide.
