Obituary

Ronald Anthony Vevoda, 87 years young, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, November 1, 2018, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital with his caring nurse and loving family. His death was a result of complications of Parkinson/Lewy Bodies.
Ron was born on August 3, 1931, in San Francisco, California to Ruth and Joseph Vevoda. The youngest of five children and a cherished little brother to his surviving sister, Elizabeth “Betty” King. He lived in San Francisco for twenty-eight years where he was baptized in the Catholic Church and attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory School. He proudly served our country during the Korean War as Staff Sergeant for the 1st Marine Air Wing. Upon his return from the war, Ron met his soulmate and surviving wife of sixty-three years, Lyla Vevoda. They shared a beautiful life together and raised their family in San Francisco, Aptos, San Mateo, and most recently Salinas, where they have resided for forty-two years. Ron supported his family as a District Manager of Safeway for thirty-three years and then for sixteen years, owned Raffles in Carmel-by-the-Sea, together with his wife. For the last fifteen years he and Lyla have lived their happily ever after in retirement traveling, playing solitaire, and endlessly laughing with those they love.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will commence on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 1:30pm at the Blessed Edmund Rice Chapel (Palma High School), 263 W Acacia St, Salinas, CA. 93901.
Military Honors and internment to commence on Tuesday, November, 13, 2018 at 2:00pm at California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Road, Seaside, CA. 93955 (Former Fort Ord Army Base).
He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Vevoda.
He will be remembered by those he loved including his wife Lyla Vevoda, his children Ronald Vevoda Jr., Mark Vevoda, Kurt Vevoda, Ross Vevoda, Marci Martin, and Jeni Neiswonger, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
His humor, wisdom, and strength will be greatly missed. He was a beautiful part of our lives.
