As we assemble today at the home going Celebration of Pastor Raymond Martin Jr., let us reflect on his life. He was born on January 7, 1942 in Lorain, Ohio to a teenage mother, Jesse Mae Martin. He was raised from birth by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Mary Magdalene Martin.
Pastor Martin was raised in a Christian home and he accepted the Lord at the age of nine and was baptized at the Mount Zion Baptist Church by his pastor, Reverend C.W. Kendrick.
After high school graduation he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He then went on to join the United States Army, where he served for twenty-one plus years. In February 1965, he married Ingrid Bruck. The marriage lasted for eighteen years before ending, and produced four beautiful children. After retirement from the army, he worked at Soledad Correctional Facility for fifteen years. In January 1981, he met the love of his life (Judy) and they were married on July 7th, 1983.

In June of 1987 he was asked and accepted the call to be the pastor of the Holy Assembly Baptist Church, where he served faithfully for thirty two years. His greatest love was that of our Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, family and the members of Holy Assembly. Pastor Martin loved to travel and to take his people with him. Cruising was his favorite pastime and now he has taken that final voyage on the grandest ship ever; that
“Ole Ship of Zion” with Jesus Christ as the Captain and landed at the port of Heaven.

Pastor Martin is survived by his wife of thirty six years, Judy A. Martin; sons; Raymond Tyrone Martin and Thomas Woodruff; daughters Angelique Ford, Claudia Johnson, Jacqueline Jackson and LaTonia Simmons. Six grandsons; four granddaughters, nine great grandchildren and a host of family and friends:

Bishop Dennis Johnson, First son in the gospel
Elder Greg Smith, Second son in the gospel
Minister Todd Granger, Third son in the gospel
Minister Antoine Watts, Fourth son in the gospel

“Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21
