Obituary

Michael “Buzz” Patrick Pierce, 68, suddenly passed away from a heart attack on Monday, June 8, 2020 in Salinas, CA. He was born May 28, 1952 in Battle Creek, Michigan. His family moved to Salinas in 1963. He was a graduate of North Salinas High School in 1970.

Michael is survived by his sister Patti (Leroy) Bugg, his children Emily (Greg) Hurst of Lehi, UT, Ryan (Lana) Pierce of Sandy, UT, Erin (Brandon) Smith of Elk Ridge, UT and Brett (Marnie) Pierce of Meridian, ID.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Pierce, his mother Joyce Pierce, and his sister Ricki Lourentzos.

He was married to Lori Locke for 38 years. He spent his last 4 years with Magdalena Gutierrez.

Michael worked 35 years for Sears Contract Sales and had his own blind business for 35 years. He managed apartments and loved to work. He instilled good work ethics in all of his children and grandchildren. He was a bishop for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a coach for many teams in the community.

Michael loved sports. His favorite teams were the 49ers, Giants, and the Warriors. He loved to go to the games. He also loved to golf and fish weekly. He recently retired and enjoyed spending time with his family. If he wasn’t doing that he was at a buffet checking the desert table.

Michael loved to travel and had several adventures. Some of his favorite adventures were hiking Half Dome and Machu Picchu. He loved Mexico fishing trips with all his buddies and hunting in the mountains. He was a jokester and took every opportunity to make those around him laugh.

Buzz has 10 grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Devin, Lauren, Megan, Jayden, Courtney, Dylan, Ethan, Brody, Isaiah, and Jaxon loved their grandpa. He was always invested in their lives, loved to mentor them and take them out one by one for special dates together.

A viewing will be held at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at 41 West San Luis St. Salinas, CA 93901.

The Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located on 255 E. Alvin Dr. Salinas, CA 93906 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
