She was raised by her Aunt Rheta and Uncle Bryan Gipe while growing up in Salinas. She attended several of the “President” elementary schools in Salinas and graduated from Salinas High School in 1966. Laverne attended the John Street Assembly of God Church where she received Jesus as Lord and Savior at an early age. She helped in construction of their new facility on Alvin Drive and was active in the church her entire life. After SHS, she attended Bethany Bible College in Scotts Valley, California, where she met her future husband, Richard. They were married on 16 June 1968. She taught at Sherwood Preschool in Soquel, California until they moved to Salinas in 1977 where she taught at Salinas Christian School for many years, then at Pacific Coast Christian Academy until her health forced her retirement.
She is survived by her husband Richard of 49 years, Daughter Terri, Sister Patricia and Brother Earl, all of Salinas, and Brother Lee.
She was predeceased by her parents, Aunt Rheta and Uncle Bryan, and Brother Herbert. She is now in the eternal care of her loving Lord and Savior.
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV) “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
