He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years as a Master Sergeant E8 and fought in the Korean, Vietnam and WW II wars. For his efforts, he was awarded two purple hearts. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1629 of Monterey and a member of the American Legion Post No. 694 of Marina.
He enjoyed playing the ukulele and singing Karaoke. He also enjoyed gardening during his free time and cooking the traditional Hawaiian dishes.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Pearl Hannah Leimomi; parents, Daniel & Julia; brother, Daniel Kainaina Kealalio.
He is survived by his wife, Ikuko Kealalio of Soledad; daughter, Diana Hughes of Soledad; son-in-law, Kelly Hughes of Soledad; sisters, Winona Puulau Kealalio of Honolulu, HI, Hazel Mailani of Honolulu, HI and Blossom Malomalamaokeavoo of Honolulu, HI; five grandchildren, Alyssa, Alejandra, Jessica, Gabriella and Darion.
Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Struve & Laporte Chapel, 41 West San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
Reception will follow at the VFW Post 811, 3131 Crescent Avenue, Marina, CA 93933.
