Obituary

Josiah Anthony “Chip” Marquez, 19, of Salinas, passed away on Sunday May 27, 2018 in Salinas, California. He was born on September 18, 1998 in Salinas, CA.
He was a life-long resident of Salinas. He attended Fremont Elementary, El Sausal Middle School, and Alisal High School in Salinas, CA. Josiah was a naturally gifted and talented athlete who excelled at baseball. He could play any position, but his favorites were pitcher, catcher, and shortstop. He was a member of the Alisal High varsity baseball team for three years. He grew up playing baseball at Closter Park as a member of Salinas National Little League, where he played from 2007 to 2013 He was a six-time all-star, who was named the Home Run King in 2011.
He was a handsome and charming young man with an infectious smile. He was a true and loyal friend that made a positive impact on the lives of many people and affected all who knew him in a special and meaningful way.
He is survived by his mother, Dolores Perez Marquez of Salinas, and his step-father, James C. Moore of Salinas; his sisters, Vanessa Vega, Angelica Marquez, and Sierra Marquez; his brothers, Andrew Vega and Abraham Marquez, all of Salinas; his great grandfather, Danny Mallobox, Sr. of Gonzales; his grandmother, Sandra Marquez of Gonzales; his aunts, Denise Marquez (and her husband, Luis Ruiz) of Gonzales, Jeanna Marquez of Gonzales, and Emma Perez of San Jose; his uncles, Francisco Perez of Salinas, Sergio Perez of Salinas, and Tommy Marquez of Gonzales; his niece, Layla Larroude; and his nephews, Nathan Larroude and Andrew Vega; his brother in law, Enrique Larroude and his sister in law, Gissel Meza, all of Salinas. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, coaches and teammates.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Anthony Marquez of Gonzales; his grandfather, Joe Marquez of Gonzales; his grandmother, Dolores Pimentel Perez, of Salinas; his sister, Celina Contreras of Salinas; and his brother, Albert Contreras, Jr. of Salinas.
Visitation will be held 3:00pm to 7:00pm and followed by Rosary from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, June 8, 2018, 11:00am, at Life Church of Salinas, 1025 Fairview Avenue, Salinas, CA 93905
