He attended San Carlos, Junipero Memorial High School in Monterey and received an AA degree from Hartnell College, in Salinas. He served in the United States Army, and was sent to Vietnam. He was employed at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. until it closed in 1980, and worked for the Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency, until his retirement in 2008.

Joe had many interests. In his young adult years, he learned to hunt and fish, and enjoyed going to Ilwaco, WA to fish for salmon. He loved classic cars and was the former President of the Salinas Valley Street Rodders. He attended car shows in his '65 Nova.

He enjoyed traveling, with his wife. They made several trips across this wonderful country in their motorhome. He had a passion for cooking, and was known as the “Master Chef.” His favorites where homemade raviolis, clam chowder, Italian cookies, and eclairs.

Joe was a member of the Salinas Elks, the Native Sons of the Golden West, and the Salinas Valley Boat Club.

He is survived by Catherine, his wife of 53 years, his children Jim DiMaggio (Katie), JoAnn Elias (Tim), Jeanette Gault (Mickey) and Joe DiMaggio (Roxanne).
