The last few weeks of his life he had been surrounded by loving family and friends who traveled to be by his side. He was born on February 4, 1934, in Madera, CA to John and Alice Firmalo. He graduated from Madera Union High School, where he was Senior Class President, and played on the football team. He attended Anderson College in Anderson, IN on a football scholarship and graduated. He came home to proudly in-list in the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War.
Upon his return home, John met the love of his life, Mary Ann. They were married on June 16, 1960. He and Mary Ann, with children in tow moved to Salinas in 1964. They opened a furniture store, which John was able to showcase his creativity in Interior Design. In 2003, he retired from Broadway Carpets as Store Manager in Seaside, CA. John and Mary Ann then moved to Bass Lake, CA.
John was an active member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church until retirement. He then joined Oakhurst Lutheran Church.
