Holly Ann Juergens, 62, died unexpectedly September 30, 2020, at Stanford Medical Center. She was born February 18, 1958, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon H. and Marcia E. (Connolly) Juergens. Holly graduated from Carroll High School, Class of 1976. Following graduation, she attended Monterey Peninsula Junior College and then transferred to San Jose State University.

Holly met her would-be wife Susan in 1995 and they were finally able to get married on July 18, 2013. They just celebrated 25 years of being together in September of this year.

Holly’s golf career spanned both playing and working as a country club professional. She played on the Players West and US Mini Tours, along with the Ladies Asian Tour. Her teaching career began at Tokyo Jumbo Golf Center. She returned from Japan to be a club professional at Salinas Golf and Country Club as a Class A member of the LPGA. In 2004, Holly was awarded both the LPGA Western Section Professional of the Year and the LPGA National Professional of the Year. Over the years, she worked at Carmel Valley Ranch, Poppy Hills, CordeValle, Spanish Bay, Pebble Beach, and then returned to her beloved members at Crazy Horse Ranch (formerly Salinas G&CC).

Holly was predeceased by her parents, Vernon and Marcia Juergens. In addition to her wife, Susan K. Steigmann, Holly is survived by her sister, Jill Juergens Smith and husband Harold, and her brother, Kevan Juergens and wife Teresa; nieces and nephews: Slade Smith and fiancee Emily, Reagan Smith Smutny and husband Ken, Connolly Irwin-Smith and wife Sacha, Marlee Juergens, Kevan Juergens II and wife Brandy, and Peter Juergens and fiancee Jessica; grand-nieces and nephews: Kaelyn and Cora Smith Smutny, Jonah, Hendrix, Vaughn, Lyla Grace, and DJ Juergens. Holly also left behind three loving pets, Tilly, Buddy, and Pippi, who are considered part of the family.

Holly’s enthusiasm for life, her friends, and her family was contagious to all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, thoughtfulness, radiant smile, incredible generosity, and unfailing work ethic. Holly was known to exemplify her favorite quote by John Gardner: “the world loves talent but pays off on character.” She will be missed by all who had the privilege to consider her a friend.

Unfortunately, due to the regulations and complications surrounding COVID-19, any services or memorials are on hold until further notice. However, we will be raising a glass to Holly at 6:30pm on Saturday, October 17th if you would like to join us in celebrating her life from the safety of your own home.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Holly’s name to either the SPCA for Monterey County or the Redwings Horse Sanctuary as they were both important to her.
