He married the love of his life, Beverly Irene Perkins on June 17, 1950, and enjoyed 62 wonderful years together while raising their three children.
Granville (Perk) was passionate about hunting, fishing, camping, boating, Giant pumpkin growing, and public service. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and golf. His travels included New Zealand, Spain and Russia. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and took special pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Granville retired from Artichoke Industries, Inc. after 37 years as Vice President. He was instrumental in the development of the Cara Mia brand of products.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Salinas, and a life member of the Castroville Rotary Club. He formerly served as a member of the Hartnell College Board of Trustees, Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency Board, North County Local Coast Program Citizens Advisory Committee, and Monterey County Water Resources Agency where he pioneered the Castroville Salt Water Intrusion Project, and served as the Moss Landing Harbor Commissioner. Another of his accomplishments was the creation of the Artichoke Research and Development Program.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Perkins, parents, Granville and Ruth Perkins, and sister, Esther Roake.
He is survived by his daughter, Holly (Jeff) Perkins Johnson, Barry (Debbie) Perkins, Scott (Debbie) Perkins, grandchildren, Nathan (Lori) Chaney, Matthew (Courtney) Chaney, Travis Perkins, Seth Hermann, Adam (Angela) Johnson, Austin (Danielle) Perkins, Mikayli (Chris) McDermitt, and Kylie Perkins. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Braden Chaney, Hudson and Logan Chaney, Savannah Perkins, Justin Perkins, Thea McDermitt, Lucas, Isabelle and Liam Johnson.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers, especially Sepiuta, Villy, Fololeni, Charlotte, and all of the staff at Carmel Hills Care Center for the compassionate care that was given to Granville.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Salinas, 404 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Granville’s honor can be made to First United Methodist Church, Salinas, Rotary Club of Castroville or Rancho Cielo, Inc., Salinas.
