Gerald (Jerry) Cheang passed away on October 30, 2020. Jerry had been living in the Sacramento area since his beloved Carol passed away in January 2017. He lived with daughter Lori, son-in-law Alan, and their dog Brock. Daughters Denise and Katie lived less than an hour away, son Jeff was a short two-hour drive away.

Jerry was born in Stockton, CA on August 29, 1936, eldest child and only son of Bill and Hazel Cheang. Even though Jerry was a third-generation Chinese-American, he was bilingual and shared the Chinese customs he was taught as a child with his own children and grandchildren. Jerry was a scholar - graduating with honors from University of Pacific in Stockton and continuing on to graduate with his DDS from College of Physicians & Surgeons (now UOP) in San Francisco in 1963.

Jerry and Carol settled in Salinas to establish Jerry's dental practice. He practiced for 49 years before retiring in 2012. Jerry's mission as a dentist was to provide care for all who needed it. Collecting money for his services was second to meeting the dental health needs of his patients.

Jerry was a well-respected community volunteer. He served as the president of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, the Chinese Assn of Salinas and the Salinas Chinese Seniors Club. He was also a member of the City of Salinas Affirmative Action and Redevelopment Committees. Jerry and Carol enjoyed cooking and entertaining their community friends and their family. All four of their children and grandchildren share Jerry's love of cooking.

Survivors include children Lori (Alan) Wing, Denise (Lew) Mow, Katie (Winfred) DeLeon and Jeff Cheang; grandchildren Jennifer Wing, Kyle Mow, Rebecca Wing and Jessica Mow. Jerry was so proud to attend all four of their college graduations and was especially happy that Kyle would be graduating from dental school in May 2021. Jerry is also survived by his sister Sue (Vic) Mow and their two daughters Shelly and Melanie and his favorite cousin Shirley Ng and her two children Greg and Jeanie. He is also survived by his Lowe sisters and brothers-in-law and their children on Carol's side of the family.
