Resided in Salinas, California
He graduated from Salinas High School in 1962 and is a Cal Poly SLO Alumnus.
Rick was the Vice Principal of The Monterey County Valley Adult School when he was in a life-changing car accident that left him wheelchair-bound in 1977. After the accident, he and three friends owned and operated The Pub restaurant on Monterey Street in Salinas for 24 years. Rick returned to teaching in 2004 at Soledad High School and also provided classes for adults through the ROP program.
Rick was a very proud lifelong resident of the Salinas Valley. For many years he served his community as a member of the Monterey County Rural Fire Board. He started volunteering at The California Rodeo as a young boy scout and went on to become a committee director in 1978, overseeing the gates. He was a long-time member of the Salinas Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge #204, The order of Eastern Star, Reveille Chapter #47, Royal Arch Masons of California, Salinas Chapter #59, and Cryptic Masons of California, Santa Cruz #17.
Rick’s favorite pastimes were playing cards with friends, quick trips to Reno for gambling tournaments, and tending to his garden and fruit trees.
The family is having a private celebration of his life and suggests, in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made in his honor to your favorite local charity.
