Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Erlinda Alvarez who was our beloved Nani, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, June 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years old. Erlinda was born in Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico to Salvador and Lorenza Yacuta. She resided in Salinas for 53 years.
She and her husband, José María Alvarez were married for 56 years. José and Erlinda left Patzcuaro to give their children a better life. They resided in Tijuana, Baja California, San Diego, Soledad, and finally settled in Salinas in 1964, where they reared their nine children.
Erlinda was a homemaker for many years. She also worked at the Hartnell College Cafeteria and for Meals on Wheels. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at Saint Mary's Catholic Church for many years. She was an active member of the St. Mary's Charismatic Group, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and Home Bound Minister. When Pope John Paul II came to Laguna Seca in 1987, she had the honor of being a Eucharistic Minister. In her later years Nani joined her daughters and became a parishioner at Madonna Del Sasso Church. Nani prayed her rosary daily. She was very proud when she became a United States citizen on June 29, 1994. Nani was an avid gardener and cook. We remember how generous our mother was in lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
It has been a blessing to have had our Nani for so many years. She will forever be in our hearts and her words will always be on ours minds. Our mother's greatest legacy was her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She always told us, "Leave everything in God's hands and always put God First." Her greatest love in life was God and her family.
Erlinda was preceded in death by her husband, José María Alvarez in 2002, her parents, Salvador and Lorenza Yacuta, her brothers José, Juan, Maximiliano, Salvador, and Eucario, her sisters, Salud and Lucrecia and her great-great grandson Zaden Florez.
She is survived by her children, Raul (Carmen), Willie (Rosie), Manny (Vicki), George, Javier (Pati), Mike, Maria (Andy) Cariaga, Joel (Silvia), and Christine Alvarez; her grandchildren, Rudy, Raul, Michael, Natalie, Tamara, Megan, Amanda, Ryan, Lindsey, Tanya, Tara, Elisa, Javi, Jessica, Nico, Joselyn, Moni, Valerie, Vincent Alvarez, and Ariel and Esteban Cariaga; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, sisters María and Gudelia, and brothers Luis and Lauro Yacuta and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to her doctors, Dr. Kumar and Dr. Shen for their many years of care. We would also like to thank her caregivers Estela and Mirel for their loving care of our mother. A special thank you to the ER and 3rd floor staff at Natividad Medical Center who showed great kindness to us as we spent our last day with our Nani.
