Elsie met Russell (Jack) Hadley who worked for the Hollywood Reporter. They married and lived in Hollywood until he retired. They moved back to the family farm in Salinas. She joined the Prunedale Grange in 1963 and became the State Grange Membership director in 1968, traveling all over the state building membership in over 300 Granges. She was a Golden Sheaf member of the Grange with 57 years of membership service.
She worked as a librarian for CT-McGraw Hill for fifteen years until her retirement in 1975.
After Jack died, she met Tony Rodrigues, a strawberry farmer. They were married in 1970 and lived in Prunedale until 2011 when Tony passed away after a long and happy marriage.
Elsie was also a member of the Salinas Woman’s Club and served as its President in 1980-1981.
She was also an active member of the Corral de Tierra Grange.
She is survived by her daughters Ingermarie Bevans of Salinas and Henrietta Smith of Orangevale, a step-daughter Kathleen Ellsworth of Salinas, niece Karen Nunez of Salinas, nephews Dean Henningsen and Rob Henningsen, 6 grandchildren, 19 great Grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Prunedale Grange at a later date, hopefully in August.
