Debbie was born in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Dorothy and Thomas Bolena. She studied at Jacksonville University. She had careers in real estate, computer training, advertising, massage therapist and as an esthetician.
She met Frank Savino in Florida in 1975 at an Albertson’s Grocery store. She worked at the cash register and Frank as the bakery chef. They were married in 1976 and they eventually moved to Chicago where they had two sons and lived for 20 years and raised a family. They had their first child in 1979, Frank Vincent, and their second in 1986, Alexander Michael.
In 1998 they moved to Salinas, California where they began their next phase of life. Debbie studied massage therapy at Monterey Institute of Touch and graduated in 2001. After which she and Frank opened the doors to Salinas’s first upscale spa, Aquablue Day Spa named after her favorite color.
Debbie enjoyed gardening, collecting Brighton Jewelry, and loved decorating her home and spa. Her decorating talents were showcased during the holidays, especially at Christmas her favorite holiday. Fine dining, fun dining and traveling the world with her beloved husband were very precious to her. In 2019, they fulfilled her desire to visit France again. She enjoyed classic TV shows such as Gun Smoke, Andy Griffith, Rifleman, Murder She Wrote, and Big Bang Theory. One of Debbie’s famous quotes was “My dogs are barkin’” after a long day of shopping.
Debbie was the torch bearer at the 2017 Salinas Relay for Life and supported the following charities: American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Salinas Animal Shelter, and Christian Children’s Fund. She was a loving supportive friend to everyone she knew, with kind words and bright smile to cheer up the dreariest of days, often opening her home up to those in need.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or Salinas Animal Shelter in her honor. (contributions can be made onsite Sunday)
