of the late internationally-renowned naval architect Alvin Mason, went home to God on June 18, 2008. The 11th generation born on the Ausland family farm outside Risør, Norway on September. 30, 1915, Christine immigrated to the U.S. in 1928.
The eldest child of Klara Hammeren and Karsten Norman Ausland, she met her future husband through her father's custom design and construction of an 18-foot traditional Norwegian folkboat.
Prior to her marriage, Christine worked as a manicurist for Elizabeth Arden at the latter's main salon on Fifth Avenue, New York. For 54 years Christine was her husband's silent partner in the world of yacht design.
Christine, along with her husband, were long time members of Sons of Norway and Scandinavian Americans of the Central Coast.
Christine loved to travel and made numerous trips to her homeland to visit with family and life long friends. She also enjoyed a wide variety of crafts.
Christine is survived by her sister, Anne (Olanda) Setz, New Jersey; brother Carl (Kåre) Ausland, Norway; daughter, Anita Carin,â€ˆSalinas.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Struve &â€ˆLaporte Funeral Chapel, 41 West San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
A graveside service will follow at Castroville District Cemetery in Moss Landing.
