After a long and fulfilling life as a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother, Charlotte W. Abbott died peacefully in her home surrounded by her immediate family on December 11, 2019. She was born to Leonard and Florence Welty of Franklin, New York. Charlotte was the 4th of 5 children. She was educated in DC schools and attended Teacher’s College. During WWII she met and married her first husband John Walter (Jack) Abbott, serving in the US Navy. When Jack passed away in the Pacific during WWII, she returned to the Washington DC where she met Robert F. Abbott from Salinas CA. Charlotte and Robert married in January 1946, they lived in Salinas CA and in 1954 Robert and Charlotte purchased the Fosters Freeze on South Main St. Their lives were full as they welcomed and raised five sons and eventually expanding their business to Hollister, Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Campbell, with their sons working alongside them. Charlotte managed Hollister as well as working in the other operations and bookkeeping until retiring.

After proudly passing along the business to their sons who continue to operate it today, Charlotte and husband Robert enjoyed retirement RV-ing around the United States and Canada. They also spent considerable time at the Abbott Family Homestead in Arroyo Seco. Charlotte enjoyed spoiling her grand-children and great-grand-children and was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants as well as the 49ers. She loved attending sporting events featuring her grandchildren, including Monica Abbott, USA Olympic softball Pitcher. Charlotte was especially proud, excited & looking forward to the opening of the family’s newest Fosters Freeze facility in North Salinas, under the Leadership of Grandson Jared Abbott

Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, David and his wife Bina in 1969 and her Husband of 67 years, Robert in 2013.

She is survived by 4 sons: Dana (Angelika), Carl (Rubina), Forrest, and Bruce (Julianne); one sister, Ruth Kluth, from Maryland; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A Private Family Celebration of Charlotte’s Life was held in January at the Family Homestead Arroyo Seco.

The family thanks Hospice for their gracious service and requests remembrances be donated to your favorite Educational Scholarship Fund, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Charlotte’s preferred fund, The Monica Abbott Scholarship Fund.
