We sadly announce that Charlotte Jaunita Radicchi (Mattingly), 84, beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend, quietly slipped away from us on Sunday, October 7, 2018, in the comfort of her Salinas home. She was born in Lakeview, Texas as the seventh child in a family of nine siblings, spent her formative years in Arkansas, then moved with her family to the Monterey Peninsula of California in 1945.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings Bryant Mattingly and Carrie Mae Mattingly (Mitchell); her husband Louis R. Radicchi; her brothers, Simon Mattingly (Mallie), Phillip Mattingly (Mickey), Charles Mattingly (Gaye); and sisters Virginia Fletcher (Deral), and Ruth Alva.

Charlotte is survived by sisters Lillian Criswell (Harvey), and Norma Parker (John); youngest brother James Mattingly (Joline); and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

As a graduate of Salinas High class of 1952 and a longtime resident, Charlotte’s heart was (trans)planted deep in the Salinas Valley’s agricultural community, having worked her way up to a managerial position at Tri-Counties Produce for more than 50 years. Her coworkers and friends all loved and looked up to her, but the true love of her life and co-conspirator in fun, Louis Ralph Radicchi, preceded her in death on February 27, 2017. Louie and Charlotte did not have children, but the lives of their many nieces and nephews were deeply enriched by the love and support they provided.

Charlotte was fashion forward and always the classiest lady on the line! When not ruling the roost at work, she regularly enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams, the Dodgers and 49ers, dancing with her husband, shopping, gardening, and quick trips to Reno. She and Louie enjoyed several memorable ocean cruises together, and loved traveling to visit the extended families in Pennsylvania and the South.

Charlotte’s courage and will to fight in the face of a terrifying diagnosis inspired admiration and hope from all of those who cared for her. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for exemplary care and loving support to her oncologist Dr. Aziz; her pulmonary specialist, Dr. Klein; her radiation oncologist, Dr. Biehl; and the very compassionate ladies on the 5th floor infusion unit at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.

Chapel services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 at Struve and La Porte Chapel. Burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA. 93907.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to any cancer research organization of your choice.
