Carlene grew up in Long Beach, CA graduating from Long Beach Poly High School and went on to graduate from Long Beach City College. Carlene enjoyed her career in the executive offices of McCulloch Corporation and Douglas Aircraft until she moved with her newborn son, Paul III and her husband, Paul, Jr. to Salinas, CA to start a new equipment rental business, Powers Rentals. Daughters Melinda and Susan came shortly after founding the business, and as a working Mom, Carlene served as its HR director and Vice President for many years, until selling the business to United Rentals.
Carlene’s passion was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling and especially spending time in the Lake Tahoe and Maui areas.
Carlene was not only an amazing mother to her 3 children, but also an active member of the community serving on boards and committees, including:
Board member of the Soroptimist Club
Board member of the Door to Hope
Washington Union School District
Notre Dame High School
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Doras Yeomans, her brother Don Yeomans, her husband Paul J. Powers, Jr. and her daughter Melinda Costa.
She is survived by her children Paul (Karen) Powers III of Corral de Tierra, Susan (Marguerite) Powers of Salinas, (5) grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to all of her caring doctors, nurses and the entire staff at Villa Serra.
A brief Graveside Service will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Prunedale, CA 93907, on Friday January 26th at 1:30pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Corral de Tierra Country Club, 81 Corral de Tierra Road, Corral de Tierra, CA 93908, Saturday January 27th at 2:00pm.
