He went on to marry for the first time in 1980, and became a father in May of 1981.
He was a devoted father. His sons remember fondly how generous he was with them, giving them his last dollars, spending summers full of adventure at the Lewis lake house at Nacimiento, and working on and racing around in their '69 VW. He was also an avid Nascar fan, loved hotrods and engines and knew how to stunt drive.
He spent his last year happily and comfortably thanks to his best friends Tim, who lived with him and helped to care for him, and Jesse, who was a faithful caregiver and friend to the end.
