Obituary

Bonnie Marie Ish, 91, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Carmelo Park in Monterey, California. Bonnie was born November 29, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas. She was the only child of Lt. Col. Claud Hollis and his wife Virgie. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Stewart Ish, and her two beloved sons, Andy and Joel.

Bonnie was a longtime Salinas businesswoman who began her career as a bookkeeper with Kane and Zech in the 1960’s. She later joined her sons as a partner in Stewart’s Housewares and Gifts. She retired in 1997 after 25 years with Stewart’s. Bonnie was a world traveler beginning with her childhood in the Philippines. Travelling with family and friends she toured Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. She also enjoyed exploring all regions of the United States. Bonnie loved golf and playing bridge. Many of her lifelong friendships came from these pastimes. She was proud of being the first woman President of the Salinas Golf and Country Club and never missed an opportunity to play in the Palma Bridge Tournament. Bonnie was also an avid volunteer. Her associations with organizations such as Entre Nous, the Salinas Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star - Reveille Chapter, the Steinbeck Center, Active Seniors, and Northminster Presbyterian Church were a special part of her life. Most important to Bonnie were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved joining them in all their activities.

Bonnie is survived by her loving son, Steve (Amy) Ish; her daughter-in-law Sandy Ish; her granddaughters, Kristen Ish and Allison (Scott) Gribben; her grandsons, Brian Ish, Greg Ish, and Jeff (Ashleigh) Ish; her great-granddaughters, Samantha, Olivia, and Claire; and her great-grandsons Jake and Noah.
