Alina was born on June 19, 1938 in Vietnam, daughter to Uong D Pham and Khoe Le. She was the oldest of nine children. Married to Edward Metzner for 45 years. She was mom to Howard, Helen, Hilton, and Chris. She was a loving grandmother to Nicolette, Kelton, Brandon, Zoe, Kadin, Kylen and Amelia. She completed her high school education and earned her teaching certificate. Prior to teaching at a Catholic Girl’s Academy, mom represented her country as part of the National Team for track and field at the Bangkok, Thailand 1966 Asian Games. She participated and metaled in track and field. In her early 30s’ she was the Lady’s Tennis Champion for Vietnam. In 1995 at 57 years old, she returned to Hartnell College and played on the lady’s tennis team. According to Hartnell College, she was their oldest player ever! She beat her future husband in tennis on their first date. According to mom, “I ran him to death on the court!” Mom enjoyed traveling and trying different cuisine. She trained as a French pastry chef. She loved baking and cooking for her friends and family. She loved worshiping her faith in the Catholic Church and attending services at Our Lady of Refuge in Castroville. Mom was a devoted wife, a loving daughter, a caring sister, mother, and aunt to her family. She was persistent and a competitive athlete. She had a wonderful laugh and a great sense of humor. She loved sharing memories of her time growing up in Vietnam, her fishing trips with dad, and her children’s accomplishments with friends and family. Mom was very proud of her accomplishments and family. She lived life to the fullest and loves her God and Savior, Jesus.

Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Sunday October 7, 2018 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Our Lady of Refuge Church, 11140 Preston Street, Castroville, CA. 95012.

Graveside Service will be 9:30a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Road, Santa Nella, CA. 95322 with burial to follow.
